The most important information continuously used in a deer management
program is the sex, age and location of deer harvested by hunter. This
information is used to determine populations, and allowable harvests.
You can help to inform your fellow P.D.A. members by sending us a lower
jaw of the deer you harvest. Simply follow the instructions given below.
I will inform you as of the age of your harvested deer. If enough samples
come in we will summarize in a future Browse Line.
Please note: In order to acquire a truly representing sample you should
submit your deer jaw whether or not it is large or small, trophy or not
(buck or doe).
Remove one back portion of the lower jaw bone (X) of the deer you harvest, remove the excess flesh, let it air dry 5 days, then mail it in before February 1. To avoid sharp edges be sure to wrap in several layers of newspaper or paper toweling.
